Description

Artemis is a fifteen track electronic album. The main artist is electric violinist, Lindsey Stirling. She collaborates with various musicians: Sophie Dossi, BDASH, Miranda Wilking, Travis Winfrey, Kandee Johnson, Kit Thornberry, Drew Steen, Elle King, and Amy Lee. The songs often build from a single violin melody, incorporating other electron elements such as other layered violins, melodic vocalizations, keyboards, and drums. When the rhythm comes in, it is a good 4/4 beat that is easy to dance to. Most of the vocals are textural, except for the Elle King collaboration, which has full lyrics.

Artist Background

Lindsey Stirling is an electronic violinist, dancer and artist. After being voted off the set of America’s Got Talent, she went on to get more than ten million social media fans and made a name for herself. (Titlewave, 2020). She released her first album in 2012. Since then, she has made four full-length albums.

Critical Evaluation

Although the album has multiple producers, it is seamlessly put together. It feels like the vision of one person. Lindsey’s skill at playing the violin is incredible. If you like electronic music with a classical twist, this is the album for you.

Programming Ideas

I wouldn’t center a program around an album.

Short Summary

Lindsey Stirling is an electronic violinist. If you like electronic music and have never heard electronic violin music, give this a listen! It is beautiful and upbeat and fully danceable. There are some big name artists on the album, including Amy Lee and Elle King. They add their beautiful vocalizations to a couple tracks, although the album is primarily instrumental.

Potential Challenge Issues and Defense Preparation

This album was not given a parental advisory warning, so it should go without challenge.

Justification for Inclusion in Collection

Lindsey Stirling is a prolific artist. Four of her albums have topped the charts. She has gotten two Billboard Awards. Forbes even put her at #4 in their yearly YouTube Artists List (Spotify, 2020). Artemis is her most recent album, and it is sure to be a hit. For these reasons, it would be a good choice for including in a music collection.
